SW6: Do Mention the War

Do Mention The War

Three best-selling historical-fiction authors, Suzanne Goldring, Louise Morrish and Gill Thompson, examine why readers eagerly consume novels set during WW1 and WW2. Ranging from the occupation of the Channel Islands to the Special Operations Executive and the Blitz, this lively discussion is compered by writer Libby Morgan.

Suzanne Goldring, Louise Morrish and Gill Thompson are all historical fiction writers whose novels take place in World War One or Two.

Following an eventful career as a public relations consultant, specialising in business and travel, Suzanne Goldring turned to writing the kind of novels she likes to read, about the extraordinary lives of ordinary people. Her latest novel, 鈥楾he Girl who never came back鈥 is about a girl who disappeared on a dangerous mission to France, and the woman who spent years trying to find her.

Louise Morrish is a Librarian whose debut novel 鈥極peration Moonlight鈥, about a special operations executive in World War Two, won the 2019 Penguin Random House First Novel Competition. She finds inspiration for her stories in the real-life adventures of women in the past, whom history has forgotten.

Gill Thompson is the Royal Literary Fund Fellow at 成人影片 University, where she gained an M.A. in Creative Writing. Gill鈥檚 latest novel, 鈥楾he Orphans on the Train鈥 is about two girls fighting for survival in war-torn Budapest.

Libby Morgan has an M.A. in Creative Writing and taught English A level for many years.
